      No the handles are short. The length you want is personal to you. Measure the length from front to back over your shoulder starting and ending where you want your bag to sit. Make that the length you want and add a few inches to allow for the strap ends in the seam

    I found the info on your sewing equipment really interesting and bought the Style Fix tape from Anne Foy's group as you said in the video that you got yours from her. I belong already so didn't look for your link -- turned out her Style Fix is non-sewable so my needle sticks. 😢 An expensive error. This video's a year old and I now see you have the direct link for the sewable one in Germany BUT their info for the product says... "Important note on processing: In order to avoid skipped stitches, you should make sure when attaching that the adhesive tape is not glued exactly where you will sew later. For example, if you want to sew on a woven tape, stick the Stylefix on in the middle and sew on the edges next to the tape. You do the same thing with zippers and other sewing projects." Hopefully anyone else looking for this sees this before they order. The only tape that I can sew over without problem is specifically wash-away double sided tape but it doesn't have a firm hold. What are you using these days?

    • @DiScarrott
      @DiScarrott Год назад

      I checked the German site and the note about it not being sewable is new, they use to claim it was sewable as did Anne which is why I used it. I have used it for many years and still do without issues. I have the Janome HD9 professional machine and a cylinder arm industrial machine. I have never had an issue with using the tape, so, I wonder if you are using a domestic machine which may not like the tape. The other possibility is that you have the newer tape that’s no longer sewable? I bought a huge supply a few years ago that I am still using so I will buy the new one and test it out. I have never had a gummed needle either which I find interesting. I do mention the tape Anne sells is not sewable so I dont know if you bought that one. I would suggest you stick the tape in the seam allowance to avoid sewing on it and make sure it is washable.

    • @jackyf3505
      @jackyf3505 Год назад

      @Bags of Love by Diane useful to know, thank you. I wondered if it might be something like that, partly because Anne notes on her tapes in general that some users have problems, some don't. Obviously we're in different groups but I thought it worth asking at least. I've made most of my bags on a modern domestic mechanical Pfaff using a mix of universal and microtex needles. It does a pretty reasonable job with vinyl (as long as it's not chieftain) but both of those needle types get gummed up going through tape other than wash-away. I've now got some Organ Anti-glue needles (130/705H-ELP) but I'm bad at remembering to change them in time 🫢 and they're a bit pricey to use as my standard needle. I've also changed to my vintage Singer, having had a motor added recently, so fingers crossed that might be better but we'll see. At worst it's back to the wash-away or avoiding seamlines (when possible) unless I can remember to change needles in time! 🙄

    • @DiScarrott
      @DiScarrott Год назад

      Oh gosh yes I forgot to mention needles. I never use universal needles because they aren’t very reliable. I found I got skipped stitches and thread breaks. I only use Organ that I buy in packs of 100 as it works out much cheaper. I use sharps for vinyl and various fabrics such as cotton, linen etc, leather for leather and denim and ballpoint for knit fabrics. I use sizes 80 or 90 unless sewing thick layers of denim and vinyl and I use anything from 110 upwards. I also use any of those for metallics. Metallic thread snaps are down to them twisting. I did a video regarding sewing with metallics. I will link it in a moment for you. I do get 3mm wide non sewable DST from Anne that I have used so you may like to try that. Also I use Gutterman HT2 glue which is amazing. It dried soft and quickly and doesn’t usually leave a mark but I am still careful when applying it. It’s also washable. It’s great to use on zips etc.

    • @DiScarrott
      @DiScarrott Год назад

      Hi Mandy. No it doesn’t peel off hunny. I have done this for many years and they are all still perfect. The laminate heat seals to the paper with the glue that’s on the laminating sheets. I use the best quality laminating sheets that are 250 macrons (125 each page/side). I also use an A3 laminator which makes a huge difference although not essential. Just make sure your laminator can take the 250 macron sheets

      The pad is folded so it’s double thickness and I don’t have the iron very hot as it isn’t necessary. If the mat was affected I wouldn’t do it. Nor would I use the pad with one layer or the iron on highest heat. I now have the ironing pad attached to a thick board so I can use high heat.

    Di, you are making hard work of that Japanese punch, you just use the up and down motion to make it work. It only takes a couple of up and down to cut 1 screw hole. Hope that helps.

      Very kind of you to comment thank you. It used to work like that but it’s no longer sharp so I have to use it like that. I really need to get another, they are very cheap so I don’t know why I haven’t haha. I have had it for about 10 years lol. Thanks so much though

    I have not made this bag yet, but I do own the pattern. How would you rate this pattern on a scale of difficulty? Was it easy to put together? and easy to understand the instructions?

      It’s for beginners with some experience of bag making. The instructions are very detailed and easy to understand.
